I have chosen to review the trailer objectively, hence 4/5. Value for money I would rate at a solid 5/5.
In Use:
At time of writing, the trailer has seen about 20 hours heavy use on track building work behind a Kubota B2230 (22hp / 1.1 ton / max braked trailer 3000kg.) The match is good, but if you are not a patient person I suggest over 30hp.
Width is well matched to suit small tractors. Long enough to make for easy reversing.
Tip angle is good enough, more would be better as some stickier mud has required manual scraping out.
The hydraulically operated trailer brakes are one reason I chose this trailer, to allow safe operation behind a comparatively small machine. They work well, although the retractor springs in the drums are not quite up to the job of moving the entire brake linkage, causing some dragging. This will probably ease up with use but I will also add a return spring in parallel with the actuating cylinder to make sure.
If planning to operate the brakes from a spool as I do, the connection will require changing.
It might be good to see a high headboard/ladder frame offered as an option, although one can easily be made.
I anticipate being able to put an 8×4 sheet flat in the trailer to be very useful.
Build Quality:
Good for price.
I chose this trailer mainly because it has easily the highest unladen weight in my budget range and as hoped this does translate to plenty of good steel and a solid trailer.
Welding quality is not particularly high with areas of porosity and a lot of spatter, but I do not feel the structural integrity is compromised and I’m not troubled about this.
Cable penetrations for the rear lights and retaining rings for brake hydraulic hoses had been left with sharp edges, requiring de-burring/grommets before use to prevent damage.
Not greasing points at every joint there could be, but drillings add cost and can’t have everything on a budget. I’m happy enough with what is there.
Coating quality seems good, well above average at this price. Tested by pushing trailer with digger bucket (more than once) and barely scratching it….. After a few loads of ballast stone, no loss of bed coating apparent.
